I have one goal for this next year! I am going to get back
to being as involved in deviantart as I was a year or so ago,
where I was on everyday and never felt too overwhelmed to sit
and chat with people
Ah! So Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you had a wonderful
holiday and that you weren't on the road today if you live in
I had a pretty terrible day. lol Because I was driving right
in the middle of this flash freezing ice storm trying to get
to my family Christmas in Chicago. It took me 5 hours to get
70 miles. It was slow going the whole way, we saw 20-30 cars
and semi's in the ditch. And when we hit the worst of it and
just wanted to get off the road every exit was blocked by the
police because people had crashed on the exit. We had to drive
on the rumble strip for traction, going 10 miles per hour, and
we were still sliding all over. IT was terrifying! The worst
thing I have ever driven in.
We finally got to an exit and just parked at a Burger King for
a while. My nerves were shot and I decided this was all so
ridiculous and it was never worth risking our lives to go any
further. We still had a few hours drive under normal conditions.
So we hopped on the road behind some salt trucks and headed home.
(and it only took an hour- Michigan knows how to handle its roads!)
Well heres the best part. Some of my family, despite seeing
this on the news, apparently thinks I should have just continued
on instead of turning back for home. And it seems like they think
I ditched Christmas on purpose. (As soon as I got home my mom
was telling me I could still catch a bus to Kalamazoo and then
take the amtrak home and I would be there by 10pm and I just would
have to cancel everything I have going on tomorrow because the
train doesn't get back until super late)
So I'm going to say this. Never let anyone pressure you to drive
through something you are not comfortable with. I was in tears on
the drive home. My nerves were just shot and I started getting all
sorts of phone calls about how different family members are furious
with me. After I was settled back at home and had spoiled my dogs
senseless since they were so good being trapped in the car for
6 hours. I just turned off my phone and passed out for 5 hours.
So what did everyone do for Christmas?
Anyone get any super neat presents?
